In 2021 it is clear that we are in a crisis. This pandemic is indiscriminately killing many of our loved ones. However if you check the statistics, minority communities are dying at much higher rates. Training in the field of medicine, it is clear that our communities have always suffered at higher rates. Unfortunately, every system is perfectly designed to get the results that it gets. So we are changing the system. Inequity plagues both medicine AND medical education. PreMed Finesse is our weapon for eliminating the barriers and hardships preventing brilliant scholars from becoming doctors. We strive to become physicians to empower our communities.
Retention:
A major unaddressed problem in the PreMed journey is retention. For every physician we see, there are countless physicians lost. The dearth of minority representation prevents children from seeing what they can become. For the few and the brave who strive for it, rigorous coursework, lack of mentorship/resources, and systemic racism kills majority of our dreams. For the tenacious, every step of the journey is questioned internally and externally. Other than the PreMed advisors, professors, peers, family, and friends that tell us to reconsider, the mental seed of doubt infinitely grows. How can you do what you have never seen done? You go in the classroom and see no one like you. You get in the medical settings and see no one like you. It ultimately feels like you are in the wrong field. The odds seem unconquerable and many give up. Truth is, there aren't many saying that we can even do it.
From PreMed Finesse, we want it to be clear to our URM PreMed Finessers:
YOU can do it. Nobody else can do it like YOU.
Our goal is to help as many future doctors (as possible!) get TO and THROUGH medical school.
PreMed Finesse is a (pending) nonprofit organization designed to help underrepresented minorities get to and through medical school. We provide motivation, advising, community, and a network that empowers premedical and medical students alike to persevere and thrive as future doctors. Underrepresented in Medicine (URM) scholars are best suited and most impassioned to further open the door of medicine for those behind them. We provide PreMed students with the individualized knowledge they need to succeed. Simultaneously, we provide the medical students (or physicians) the support and platform they need to inspire our future doctors.
For URM By URM.
With your help, we can help provide premed students with:
* Infrastructure for all encompassing PreMed Finesse App for our network and services
* Over 1000 sponsored individualized advising sessions from
* Yearly scholarships & medical education resource giveaways at all levels
*A supportive community facilitating an easier, more exciting and rewarding journey to medicine
Help us further open the door of medicine to those historically denied access!
